All-22 review of Tomlin-Jones incident in Steelers-Ravens game (updated)

The NFL finally released the All-22 tape of the Thanksgiving night Steelers-Ravens game on Tuesday morning (as they do every week at this time) for NFL Game Rewind, a paid-subscription service that allows anyone to view the coaches’ film from two angles — high above the press box and high above one end zone.

Here is what the coaches’ film shows of the Steelers’ kickoff to the Ravens with 6:26 left in the third quarter, a play Baltimore’s Jacoby Jones returned 73 yards to the Pittsburgh 27, not before he crossed paths with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin.

The NFL is reviewing the incident, as coaches and players are not allowed in the six-foot white border area at any time. Earlier in 2013, including a Jets-Ravens game just four days earlier, two assistant coaches were flagged for impeding officials in the white border. No flag was thrown on Tomlin.

Here is the series of events, as shown from those two angles. After that, for relative purposes, Tomlin’s position on each of the other 10 kickoffs in the game is shown from the press box camera.

From this point, until the return, Tomlin is not seen by either camera going downfield until Jacoby Jones crosses the Ravens 43 as Tomlin comes into view of the end zone camera. (Photo Credit: NFL Game Rewind)
